What do you think of an act of worship – the most ordered in the Qurʾan, the first on which we'll be judged, the true sign of one's belief, the one that brings you the closest to Allah and the one that brings you to the true station of servitude (prostration)? A simple 5 minute act of worship that is more beloved to Allah than this world and all that is in it!

Little wonder is it not, that the Prophet's last advice before he passed away was: 'The Prayer, the Prayer!'

Yet with such importance, how few are those who learn about it and practice it correctly? On top of that, how much differences exists in the ummah in the manner of prayer? And finally, how pitiful that people don't take the full reward of the prayer – just as the Prophet (ṣalla'llāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said in the authentic ḥadīth: A person prays and yet for him only a tenth or a quarter or a half of its reward is written.

Are you sure your prayers are correct?
Are you sure they are done in the manner that deems them acceptable?

Sheikh Bilal Ismail was born in Durban, South Africa. He is one of three siblings and comes from a religious traditional hanafi family.

He memorized the Qurʾan while studying at school and went on to complete high school in 1998. Sheikh Bilal then went on to do a diploma in Computer Science in 1999, as well as qualifying as a Microsoft certified systems engineer. He was accepted into the Islamic University of Madinah in 2001 where he completed his Diploma in Arabic followed by a BA in Islamic Law from the faculty of Sharīʿah.

Sheikh Tawfique Chowdhury says about him: "He was always one of the most studious people I have met and he never wasted time whilst in Madinah." Also: "Sheikh Bilal is a personal friend of mine and I would describe him to be a true student of knowledge - someone who speaks with knowledge and is of the highest adab and morals."

After graduating, he returned to South Africa where he had been teaching Fiqh and Tafsīr weekly classes in Durban since the summer of 2007 and says he is "still a student of knowledge - and will always be!"
